"The intersection of Art and Technology." is the byline for Audeze Inc. If you have been following Audeze's progression, you may find that it's not only a byline, it's a promise. The LCD2 (and subsequently the LCD3) has found it's way into the hearts and minds of most every reviewer who has strapped one onto his or her ears.
Comments like, "In a number of ways, it's the finest headphone I've ever measured" (Tyll Hertsens-Inner Fidelity-read here), to Srajan Ebaen of 6Moons writing, "I'm resolutely adding myself to the apparently growing list of folks who consider the Audez'e the currently best headphone made." (read here) These across the board accolades tell one part of a two part story.
The exploration of the technical, essentially complete as it should be, (we're talking about a headphone with 28 earth magnets, specially sourced tone wood, and an unrelenting attention to every aspect of build and tolerance as we know them) is nonetheless half of the story. After all, how they sound is at least as important. Thus far it's widely agreed upon that they have the finest bass of any planar headphone. Follow that with what is largely considered the finest mid-range and you have a new standard. Fortunately, we don't listen to bass or midrange, or even upper registers. We listen to music, and Audeze portrays music with a completeness and soul that is it's own. If others are more resolute, or offer a slightly better this or that, let us say that Audeze taken on whole (as music is offered) may have the best balance of attributes for the average listener.
There is also forethought that accompanies the pride of manufacture. (remember, work hard and smart) Being given a choice of ear pad material, wood finish, and the mini-xlr's making for easy swapping of headphone cables, shows that all of the concerns of the enduser have been measured and answered. Rapid response to endusers' desires and quibbles* is perhaps Audeze's greatest strength.
"Some audiophile gear can provide extraordinary resolution and detail, but can't deliver the power and glory of live music. Not this time...The Audeze LCD2 may be the best-sounding full-size headphone on the planet.""-Steve Guttenberg-CNET-read here.
And if your thirst for accolades still has some thirst left:
"Frankly, these headphones feel the way that the interior of a Rolls-Royce automobile looks—in a word, sumptuous."-Chris Martens-Playback AVGuide.com read here or
"Everyone who took the Audeze LCD2s for a test drive arrived at the same conclusion. Need was always the word used in the conversation. While headphone users are very opinionated and easily polarized, I'll stick my neck out and say that these are the most enjoyable headphones I've ever experienced." Jeff Dorgay-Tone Audio read here
*quibbles add up over the long haul
